19 Sep

If you thought Skittles commercials were already weird, they just got a little weirderrrr (yes I know thats not a word). Back when the ‘skittles leak’ commercial aired, I thought I had seen it all, but now this new batch released in 2011 have taken it to a whole new meaningless makes no sense kinda creepy level.

Missouri: Shocking Tornado Video

23 May

If you have been following the news lately, you would know that a string of Tornado’s have been wreaking havoc in the central section of the U.S that makes up tornado alley this spring. The latest tornado hit Joplin, Missouri and killed 90 people so far. The storm is being classified as the 4th deadliest since 1950 record keeping in the U.S.

There has been a pretty disturbing video taken of a group of people at a store as the tornado hits. The audio in this video being a good example of just how terrifying a tornado experience really is. Watch the video below, the winds really pick up at about 2:00 as you hear the glass breaking in the store, and at 3:00 the tornado seems to pass right overtop of them. We can only hope for the best as this spring turns out to be one of the worst in tornado history.

Home Alone House For Sale

8 May

It was the home of the Mcallisters, it was a huge warm home big enough for the whole family, and it was a house that Kevin had to protect. Not many movies portray a house like Home Alone did back when it was released in 1990, the house was the battleground for Kevin as he had to defend it from burglars and really was like a main character in the movie itself.

And just recently that same house in Chicago Illinois has gone up for sale. So if you have the cash, you can own a little piece of cinema history. The 4250 sq. ft. home has 4 bedrooms and 14 rooms in total, and it also features a scary basement, cool third floor bedrooms, and a staircase just begging for a toboggan.

The house is listed for $2.4 million… keep the change you filthy animal.

The house is currently being listed by Coldwell Banker and you can check out the online real estate page here:

Just in time for Earth Day, Norwegian photographer Terje Sorgjerd recently showcased his work filming the milky way from a mountain location in Spain. The results are impressive, through Sahara sand storms, waves of clouds, and a wide range of colors, his work has really paid off. He was recently featured on CNN talking about how he made the video, you can see that video here. His videos have been popping up across the blogging world, and other news sites like the Wall Street Journal, in which you can read that article here. If your interested, you can see what Terje Sorgjerd is up to on his facebook page. Otherwise, watch the incredible video below.

19 Apr

With some poor reviews of the latest Jetta release, VW is definitely trying to step up their game. So maybe a little comical advertising will help, hey if Bill Hader is in it, its bound to be funny right? And incase you thought I was going to say no, your wrong, yes, yes this is some quite hilarious stuff. So check out the latest series of ad’s from Volkswagen.

Reasons to Believe

17 Apr

For each tank that is manufactured in the world, 131000 teddy bears are made.

For each stock exchange that plummets, there are 10 versions of ‘What a Wonderful World’.

For each corrupt person, there are 8000 donating blood.

For each wall that exists, there are 200000 welcome mats.

While a scientist is designing a new weapon, 1 million moms are making chocolate cakes….

There is a recent commercial circulating in Latin America right now, and its gathering a lot of attention. What you just read is a section of the ad appropriately named ’Reasons to Believe’ that is put out by Coca Cola. I am not sure why this ad has not been released in an english version elsewhere, but I think it definitely should be soon. Until then, there are a couple translated versions floating around on YouTube, and I am here to share one of them with you. Put aside all your liberal-anti-big-business-damn-the-man thoughts and just enjoy a simple ad with a great message to start your Sunday :)

More Great Car Ads

10 Apr

Automakers produce some of the most innovative and enjoyable advertisements in the industry. Whether its making us feel good about life, our car, or anything inbetween, these ads all portray a lifestyle. It’s that lifestyle you associate with, look up to, and want, not necessarily the car itself. It’s with that little trick that marketing agencies around the world target us. Our brains by default connect the shortest path to a destination, we think that maybe if we buy this car, we can have that lifestyle. Even if we know that is not the case, we like to think that owning that car could help propel us on the path to achieving our dreams. This is a very difficult urge to supress, but one must take advertisements with a grain of salt.  Either way, if you can maintain your ability to make good decisions, you should be able to enjoy the ads nonetheless. Below is a sample of some more favorites of mine.

The Man from Nowhere

24 Mar

With the huge amount of pop culture streaming out of South Korea comes one particular film which pushes the boundaries of quality movie making, especially from a foreign market. ‘The Man From Nowhere’ is a 2010 film which is just now hitting North American markets with the DVD release.

The film follows Cha Tae-sik, a quiet guy living a low key lifestyle in Korea. One of the only people he communicates with is a small girl named So-mee, who visits his small pawn shop regularily. This simple relationship is the anchor for the series of events that unfolds when both their lives are thrown in turmoil.

This action film closely resembles the likes of ‘Man on fire’ or ‘Taken’ with one persons determination to do anything to save a loved one. Not in the traditional 90 minute hollywood length category, the longer timeframe allows for a more indepth character development which allows the kind of attachment and feelings required to pull you in. Action scenes abound as an underground world of drugs and black market organ trade is revealed, and even with the 2 hour length, theres hardly a moment when you are wondering when it will end.

So check it out, you will not be dissapointed.

All About Japan

12 Mar

In the wake of the recent events in Japan, I was inspired to share some of my favorite short films and videos about Japan. As the death toll pushes into the thousands, I know that the Japanese people will remain strong and push onward through this tough moment in their history. With strong memories of Japan, I was lucky to experience the culture, food, and the people of this wonderful country one warm summer back in 2009. From hiking in the beautiful mountains, early morning Tsukiji sushi stops, riding the Nozomi trains, and meeting cool people in every city, it is a place I always wanted to go back to. Japan has contributed so much to the world, and they are an amazingly friendly, compassionate, respectful and creative people.

Check out some of these videos all about Japan.
